My first quilt top for 2012 has been loads of fun to create. I am a big fan of Elizabeth at Oh Fransson! and was very excited to get her book for Christmas, The Practical Guide to Patchwork. Although I have been quilting for over 13 years I love books and cannot resist a new one. Her cover sold me! All the farbics I LOVE.
So with my stash of Denise Schmidt fabrics, Small Plates was the first quilt I decided to make for this year.
I adapted mine to a single bed size quilt of 24 blocks. I have to admit I loved the fabric and wanted to make one more quilt with my fat quarters. So with a little bit of maths I scaled Elizabeths down. Have to say though, her finished size of 68″ x 85″ would be delicious.
I did change one of my fabrics from my previous post in Sunday Stash #3. The orange butterflies stood out too much and I couldn’t work out why. It was only when I looked at the photo I realised it was the only fabric with a distinctive busy print of something. Most of the others were subtle patterns and tone on tones. So it was removed for another day and replaced by a tonal orange. Always good to reflect upon your fabrics before you start cutting away. If your gut tells you something is not sitting right with the colours… wait or ask a friend and hopefully the answer will appear.
Here is a sneak peek. Pinned it all last night with a pieced backing. Ready to quilt….
